Hi, I'm Arshiya and I'm one of the lucky ones on the Breaking Through Top Talent Programme and soon I will be starting my first Board member position in the NHS. I'm a qualified doctor and I joined the NHS in 2002 when I arrived in the UK. After my first role in the NHS (Royal Surrey County Hospital as the Two Week Rule Co-ordinator) I worked in various middle and senior managements positions, and 2 years in the health care community before coming back as an Assistant Director in the NHS. The reason for talking about my career history is basically two fold. First, my firm belief that you only get to where you wish to be. You have to brave, and you have to take on challenges and difficult situations and tasks if you are aspiring for higher positions. And I strongly believe that you have to be very supported from those around and I've been very lucky and very brilliant people in the NHS who have support me. Of course support I have had from the Breaking Through programme has been invaluable. The Breaking Through programme has inspired and instilled in me the desire and strength to achieve. Right from the very beginning from the master classes to the development centres. Now of course the help and support I get from my colleagues from the Top Talent programme has been invaluable. The Breaking Through programme has the wider me and has support me and development for me which I will have to call upon as I embark on this very exciting challenging journey in my first Director position. I think I am in a very privileged position to have the help and support of such a well know and credible programme; the Breaking Through programme, as I start in my first role as a Director. And I will just say in the end the Breaking Through programme gives you a unique opportunity. You have nothing to lose, only something to gain so please make good use of it. Thank you.
